Regional partnerships are helping our region become more sustainable
We are involved in several regional partnerships. These allow us to reach more people and work collaboratively with other groups and organisations to get the message about good recycling and sustainability to as many people as we can in the region.
Our regional partnerships include.
North East Waste
Lismore City Council is a member of North East Waste, a group of councils on the North Coast of New South Wales, working together towards cost-effective waste management solutions.
The group has a voluntary membership and aims to achieve the development and implementation of local and regionally based solutions to waste management. Other member councils include Ballina Shire Council, Byron Shire Council, Clarence Valley Council, Richmond Valley Council, Kyogle Shire Council and Tweed Shire Council.
North East Waste also has strong ties to other neighbouring councils as well as other regional waste management groups.
North East Waste provides a number of recycling programs, events and education activities, from Second Hand Saturday to asbestos disposal programs and much more.

Northern Rivers Regional Organisation of Councils
The Northern Rivers Regional Organisation of Councils (NOROC) is the peak representative group for the Ballina, Byron, Kyogle, Lismore, Richmond Valley and Tweed local government areas. With representation by the mayors and general managers of each council, NOROC's role is to facilitate and lead advocacy, political representation and cooperative action on matters of regional significance.
NOROC is committed to the implementation of a Regional Waste Disposal Strategy to identify the most efficient and effective disposal options for the region over the short, medium and long term.
Memorandum of Understanding – Ballina Shire Council
Lismore City Council has a Memorandum of Understanding with Ballina Shire Council for waste-related activities. This has involved joint tendering for waste services and a commitment to jointly researching, investigating, evaluating, sharing waste management knowledge and developing action plans.
